Okay, so I have to admit, I was REALLY down yesterday after my weigh in. I felt like just giving up! I know I didn't eat like I should have this past week, but I still worked my butt off physically and felt like that should have made up for the poor food choices.... But.... this today I have a new perspective on things. First of all, last night, since Sunday's are my "cheat" day, I made kettle corn. Basically just popcorn with extra butter and sugar. It made me SO sick! I was disgusted by it. I went to be feeling sick and woke up this morning feeling sick. Before I started this whole weight loss thing, I used to eat kettle corn ALL the time. It was a regular desert for me. I am amazed that I used to be able to eat it and finish it too! I realized that I am training my body to thrive on healthy food. So, there is a benefit right there, beyond the weight loss, but there is more than that!
I got up this morning and even though I still felt sick from the popcorn the night before I made myself get up at 5 am and work out. I did Tae Bo for 30 min. (it would have been longer, but my husband got up and came in and sat down and watched me ... that does not work for me! It is either join me or get out. I don't need him or anyone sitting there watching me thinking, "Wow! She looks horrible doing that!" So, anyhow, I turned off the video early - next time I do just need to tell him to join in or leave) And then I went on a 2 mile run. Afterward, I felt GREAT! I realized that again, even if I don't lose weight each week, I am gaining strength and stamina! I can tell that I am getting stronger and that I have more endurance.
So, the point being. I am feeling good about things again. I do plan on being much more careful with my diet this week. I DO need to lose the weight too, but I am up and feeling positive! I CAN DO THIS! :)

4/25/2010 weigh in
Another frustrating weigh in. Though, I can't complain. I know I blew it this week as far as diet is concerned. I ate fast food 3 times this week. I know I can't expect to lose weight if I am eating garbage, so I guess I had better stop! :) So, I lost the 1 lb. that I supposedly gained last week, but that puts me still at the 12.5 lb weight loss overall. The one positive thing is that my scales measures fat % also. I have no idea how accurate it really is, but the number is going down each week, so that is a good thing! Last week it was at 49% and this week it is at 48.4%. So, according to that, this week I may not have lost weight, but I lost fat and gained muscle. That is always a good thing.
This next week is going to be different. I am going to be very careful with my diet. It is going to take me 10 years to lose all this weight if I keep going at this pace! So, this is me recommitting to eating right and increasing my exercise!

04/18 weigh in
Well, according to the scale this morning, I have gained 1 lb. this week. I am not worried about it though. I had actually gotten on the scale in the middle of the week and I had already lost 2 lbs. However, I am a woman and along with that comes the extreme joy of having to deal with times of the month that weight fluctuates by no fault of our own! :) My weight usually fluctuates as much as 5 lbs. So, I am sort of considering this week's weigh in a wash and I will just focus on the weigh in for next week!
Today is my cheat day! whoo hoo! :) Though I can't really brag about yesterday. It was the Stake BBQ and there was some really yummy food there and I am sure I ate a lot of extra calories in all the pasta salad's, guacamole, beef brisket sandwiches etc.

This morning I went on my normal 3 mile route but I did sprints. I saw Jillian on Biggest Loser suggest one minute sprints. So, I thought I would try it. I sprinted for 1 min. and walked 1 min. etc. etc.

I loved today! I know I have mentioned it before, but I love the fact that my whole family is beginning to be more active! I woke up this morning at 5:15 am and went jogging. I jogged 2 1/2 miles. I was surprised how "easy" it was. I say "easy" because it just was not overly difficult like I expected since I haven't jogged or ran for over a month. I came home from jogging and my husband wanted to go walking, so after getting the older kids off to school we took the two youngest and went for a 2 mile walk. Then this evening the older kids wanted to go for a bike ride, so after dinner we all went (Brian and I walked, the kids rode bikes) for a 2 1/2 mile walk/bike ride.

Today I went to "strength training" class. Cindy (the teacher) is in Hawaii, so we actually worked out to a video. We did a P90X. It was a great work out. I also took the kids on a 2 1/2 - 3 mile bike ride (I walked) this afternoon. It was a great day as far as working out.

04/11/10 weigh in
This week I lost .... 3 lbs!
So, my husband put me in my place last night. He asked me how often I am posting and if I am blogging my food as well as exercise. Obviously I have not been. I started thinking ... "this has got to be really boring for the people who read this!" But as Brian pointed out to me, though there are people reading my blog, the main purpose for it is for me to be completely accountable to myself as well as any readers. So ... I will go back to posting my food and exercise daily. :) Luck you! :) lol
I have changed things in my diet a little bit. I was watching Biggest Loser this week and one of the trainer's tips that Jillian gave was that you should mix things up in your diet. Her suggestion is that you have 2 days a week that you have a very low caloric intake, 3 days that are moderate and 2 days that you give yourself a little bit of a break. The theory is that for 1, it confuses your body so that it does not go into that survival mode of hanging on to fat because it thinks you are starving and 2, helps you stick with it so that you don't constantly feel deprived. So, I used that method this week and I had great results with a 3 lb. weight loss.
I have been enjoying being more physically active and it is wearing off on my husband and kids too. My husband has actually lost 8 lbs. in the time that I have been doing this. Mostly because he is physically active ALL day at his job, but also that I am cooking healthier meals. He probably could have lost about 20 lbs. by now, but he has been eating ice cream every night! Men and their metabolisms! So not fair! :)
I am more focused on making sure that my kids are physically active as well. I invited my 7 yr. old daughter to do some Tae bo with me, her response was, "Why would I exercise? I am already skinny!" Obviously I have set a bad example for my kids letting them think that exercise is only for weight loss. So we have been focusing more on being active. We have been doing a lot of bike rides and this week we went to the park and had a picnic (Subway sandwiches) and played basketball as a family. I also told my kids that they each needed to decide on a sport that they want to get involved with. I don't care if it is basketball, volleyball, baseball or badminton (spelling?) etc. but I want each of them to have something to do that is active.
Well, here's to another good week and a better week as far as being accountable and blogging is concerned! Thanks for reading !

04/04/10 weigh in
This week I lost ... 2 lbs.
I am a little disappointed with that amount just because I was hoping for at least 3 lbs. to make up for the lb. that I gained last week. But at least I lost! There are a few tweaks that I will make to my diet this week. I really need to get back to eating grapefruit before each meal again and I know that I have been eating larger portions at each meal than I should. So, those are the two adjustments I will make this week.
I took my day off from working out yesterday, to try and give my knee a chance to heal a bit. I still did a lot of house cleaning ... so that counts as some calories burned .. right? :) My knee is actually feeling a lot better today. I will be going on a walk with the family this afternoon which should not been too strenuous on my knee. I think by tomorrow my knee will be good to go and then it will just be a matter of being careful with it until it is 100% back to full strength.
Thanks again to all my supporters and each of you who check in on my blog to see how I am doing. I appreciate your support and your comments!

I am so excited about how this week is going. I have really gotten into the grove of making sure that I am active everyday and getting in some good workouts. I feel as though I have lost a good amount of weight this week, but I wont' know until Sunday. Even if it does not show on the scale, I know I have made improvements!
My husband set up our scale so that it will also measure muscle gain along with weight loss. I'm not sure how accurate it is, but it will still be good to have a general idea. I am looking forward to Sunday morning to "hop" on the scale. (hop is just me trying to make a pun since it will be Easter:))
I am also keeping track of my meals in a notebook and I will transfer that here to the blog on Sunday. I still want to keep accountable for what I am eating, but just have not been successful in blogging each night.
My main frustration is my left knee. I am still having issues with it and it is actually getting worse. It usually feels ok in the morning and I am still able to work out etc, but then I hobble around the house the rest of the day. Finally last night I not only iced it, but I put a heating pad on it for a couple of hours while my hubby and I watched a movie. That seemed to help quite a bit and most of the pain was gone this morning. After my morning strength training class, though it is sore again. So, I will try icing it and putting the heating pad on again.
I realized this week how addicted I am to my access bars (fat conversion bars). I will not work out without eating one first ever again! We ran out and I had to order some more. While we were waiting on the order to come I worked out one day without using one. It SUCKED! I did not have near the same endurance as I usually do. Luckily I found a couple of bars that I had carried around with me for samples several months ago. But I had left them in a ziplock bag with some household cleaners (for those of you that know Melaleuca products, I had tub n tile in there and sol u mel) Well, I guess the tub n tile leaked and soaked into the access bars. They tasted SOOOOO nasty! But I still used them for the two days until I got more! I refused to workout with out one and refused to skip any workouts! So, no it is not just the fact that they are great for you and taste like a candy bar, I know they make a huge difference in my workout!
